Chingmy Yau is a Hong Kong actress who no longer takes part in films although she is not formally retired.
Yau entered the Hong Kong film industry after competing in the 1987 Miss Hong Kong Beauty Pageant. Rumors had it that she underwent plastic surgery on her chin, but she defended that it was only done as a result from a childhood accident. She also claimed to have been sick before the final round, so she withdrew from the rest of the competition. However, joining the pageant was enough to win her several film roles.
